July 29, 2019

As you kick off the week, here are five things making news in the cannabis industry:

  • New Blog: Canadian Cannabis Research Should be Thriving, not Thwarted; Legalization, they said, would support and advance important #cannabis research. However, we learned this month that hundreds of academics across the country are caught up in red tape.

  • Research News: Researchers at the University of Guelph have unlocked the process of manufacturing two pain-relieving molecules in cannabis that are said to be nearly 30 times more powerful than aspirin. Despite the fact that studies are only just getting off the ground, “cannflavin” (cannabis flavonoids) research is already raising hopes that we might one day have a whole new way to treat pain. • Education News: “It’s of paramount importance to educate people who are going to be working in this industry on what’s happening, what has changed and how we work within those (legal) parameters." • ICYMI: The Quebec government wants to ban the sale of cannabis candies and desserts, including chocolate and gummies. As the CBC reports, new rules will also bar other cannabis desserts and sweets, as well as skin creams.

  • Food for Thought: "There are the people that are completely open and (say), ‘Really, please just help me, I don’t want to take all these pills anymore, I want to feel better.’" Aging boomers are turning to cannabis for relief, not for fun.
