NICHE this Week: 5 Things You Need to Know

As you kick off the week, here are five things making news in the cannabis industry:

  • New Blog: The Grassroots Expo: A Weekend of Conversation for the Cannabis Curious; The cannabis curious will converge on Vancouver this weekend for the Grassroots Expo, presented by the Georgia Straight. Our latest blog highlights the event, which will connect the public to Canada’s leading cannabis educators, brands, and start-up companies for an intimate conversation about the where this emerging industry is and where it’s heading as our country prepares for legalization.

  • Nova Scotia introduced the new Cannabis Control Act today to establish the legislative framework for recreational cannabis legalization. The proposed legislation would see fines as high as $10,000 for illegal cannabis sales or distribution to a person under 19, and will also harmonize penalties for alcohol with those proposed for cannabis so sanctions are consistent.

  • PEI has announced its framework for cannabis legalization, which will see the province sell seeds and seedlings in addition to dried cannabis and cannabis oil, but no edibles. As the CBC reports, the minimum age will be 19 and consumption of cannabis will be limited to private residences and some exceptions for designated spaces.

  • ICYMI: How the price of cannabis, the supply of it, taxes and the consumer experience will determine whether or not the government can successfully compete with the black market. Global News takes an in-depth at the issues.

  • Food for Thought: “I can’t imagine practising without it”; As the Georgia Straight reports, a Vancouver vet says cannabis-derived CBD helps her four-legged clients and she “can count on one hand the number of pets who haven’t done well with CBD”.
