It was a nail biter – Last week, Senators voted 44 to 29 to pass Bill C-45, the Cannabis Act, at 2nd reading. A defeat would have killed the bill, forcing the government to start over again with new legislation. This week the Cannabis Act will be discussed by the Senate’s Standing Committees on Aboriginal Peoples, National Security and Defence, and Social Affairs, Science and Technology.
Last week, the federal government released a summary of comments received during public consultation of their Proposed Approach to the Regulation of Cannabis and unveiled strict limits on cannabis packaging and production.
